Yesterday, we went to check out a house that was for sale in Richmond, a town just a few minutes outside of Houston. It was built in 2000 with around 4500 sq ft (418 sq m) for the house alone and the lot was more than an acre (4,047 sq m). It was really huge and was cheap for its size so it was worth checking. The real estate agent who listed the house said she couldn’t come with us ‘coz she had an emergency but could give us the combination for the lock. So it was just me, Brian, and Kyle there. It was really nice from the outside, gated, and the yard was enormous. When we went inside, it looked like it had been vacant for so long. I didn’t feel very comfortable inside. Something about the place creeped me out. I always made Brian walk first.
We then got to the garage which was huge and had a very spacious gameroom with wet bar upstairs. Again, I didn’t wanna go in but Brian went inside so I followed while carrying Kyle. Then as soon as we got in, the door slammed very hard behind us. Then I said to Brian, "Oh no, we’re locked in!" He said "Are you serious?" "I don’t know", I replied. We proceeded upstairs to see the gameroom. That was the room that made us real curious about the house. We wanted a house that could entertain a lot of people and that room was perfect, so we thought. But just a few seconds after we reached upstairs, I wanted to come down already. So we hurried and headed for the door. But then, just as I suspected, we were locked in! The door handle from the inside was broken but not from the outside. You could come in but there was no way out. We tried opening the garage door itself but it wouldn’t open. We started to get nervous since nobody was there to help us and the neighbors were far away. Nobody could hear us if we screamed for help. So Brian called the agent and told her that we were locked in the garage. She said we could try breaking the door as it was just made of glass. We tried, but couldn’t. For some reason the glass wouldn’t break. We tried everything but nothing worked. I was really nervous but tried hard not to panic. And so the McGyver me thought of ways, looked for things that I could use to break the door. Then I found our lifesaver — a fork on the floor. (Yeah weird, a fork in the garage!) It had dead bugs sticking on it but I didn’t care. I just had to break the darn door lock. I had to do it fast before it’d get dark. Then alas, after a few sweats, I was able to break the lock and we were able to get out finally. And I said " Let’s get out of this place quick!" And of course, the door didn’t close on its own this time.
When we got to the car, we talked and thought that that was weird. Brian finally admitted that he too had a bad feeling about the house even before we got locked in but he just didn’t tell me. I checked my phone. There was a text message from 99799 saying "You are currently subscribed to Most Haunted Mobile for $0.99/mo. If you wish to cancel reply ’stop boo’. For help, reply ‘help boo’." It was talking about this program from the Travel Channel’s Most Haunted where you could install in your phone a software to track down possible ghosts in your area. But I remembered unsubscribing as soon as I signed up ‘coz it wasn’t compatible with my phone. And it had been a couple of months ago. Why was it telling me this now? When I checked the time when the message was sent, it was 4:22 PM. The time when we were still inside the house. We thought that was even weirder and drove as fast as we could away from the house. Driving home, my mom called. She said she was just giving a call back after she saw a missed call from me on their phone a few minutes ago. The problem was, I never called them. My phone was with me the whole time and it never registered the supposed call.
A haunting or a coincidence? If it was just coincidence, it was a weird one for sure. And it sure did creep out the most skeptic person I know, Brian, and that was important to me :p
